Committee Name: Sports and Health Awareness Committee (SHAC)

Committee Members:

Dictate::

The Igbo Community Aberdeen (ICA) during her monthly general meeting on the 29th of April 2017 reiterated the need to revitalize the existing Sports committee with the mandate to promote the values of ICA through health and fitness activities.

It is expected that this committee will devise seamless strategies to

  1. Promote healthy living amongst MICAs
  2. Promote physical exercise activities amongst MICAs
  3. Promote unity amongst MICAs through sporting activities
  4. Negotiate best deals for MICAs regarding the use of sports facilities in Aberdeen and Shire
  5. Periodically enlighten the general house of various health topics deemed valuable
  6. Promote initiatives that will promote healthy living amongst Igbos in diaspora
  7. Promote initiatives that will promote healthy living amongst Igbos in Igbo land
  8. Encourage all MICAs to buy-in into the whole Health and Fitness initiatives.

The committee has the liberty to use all existing ICA communication media (email, WhatsApp) and any other means deemed necessary without compromise to the privacy of ICA to disseminate information regarding her activities / plans to the general house.

The committee has the liberty to decide their meeting pattern, frequency and strategy.

Like every other committee within ICA, SHAC is encouraged to liaise with the EXCO and keep the EXCO abreast of her activities and plans.

The EXCO will always render full support to the SHAC.

Terms and reference for the Welfare committee (ICA)

1. Objective

  • Welcoming of new members
  • Retaining of existing members.
  • Promote Moral, physical and social wellbeing of members
  • Promote unity and peace among members through conflict resolutions
  • Channel welfare concerns of members to appropriate channels

2. Term

This term of reference will be effective from date of approval to end of the current tenure or as terminated by the ICA assembly.

3. Roles and Responsibilities

The committee is accountable for:

  1. Ensuring that new members are properly welcomed and inducted to the association
  2. Visiting / Following up on members who have not attended scheduled ICA meetings over a long period to understand their concerns / welfare problems.
  3. Can act as an arbiter for conflict resolution amongst members.
  4. Provide a platform for channelling and addressing members welfare concerns to ICA executive / assembly.

Procedure for welcoming of new members

  1. Welcoming of new members should be conducted by the executives at the beginning and before the end of our monthly meetings.
  2. People sitting close to new members to ensure a warm welcome (shake hands etc.)
  3. Welfare committee member(s) to welcome new members; take their contact details and provide induction pack (including application pack).
    • If new member completes application form immediately, welfare committee members to ensure new member are registered duly as per ICA constitution.
    • If new member does not complete application form immediately, welfare committee members will collect contact details and try to follow up at a later date to confirm their interest.
  4. Welfare committee member(s) to ensure ICA secretary provides ICA constitution (Hard Copy) to fully registered new member who have paid qualifying fee.
  5. Welfare committee member(s) to ensure new members are enlisted in ICA yahoo group and all other forms of communication media used in ICA.
